Bicycle Opera General Auditions

The Bicycle Opera Project is casting 8 singers for our 2017 project, in addition to holding general auditions for future projects.

 Auditions: Friday, Dec 2nd

Location: Heliconian Hall, 35 Hazelton Ave, Toronto

About us: The Bicycle Opera Project brings Canadian music to Canadians who might otherwise have little opportunity to hear it, and works to close the distance between audiences and opera singers through performance in intimate spaces.

2017 Tour Dates: Rehearsals mid-June, tour, July, 2017

What we are looking for:

  • All voice types
  • Singers from all cultural backgrounds, particularly singers underrepresented in opera, and LGBQT
  • Folks with a sense of adventure, camaraderie, and joie de vivre!
  • Singers who are good actors and comfortable with movement

About the cycling:

The troupe will be traveling approximately 50 kilometers per day on cycling days, or about 2.5 hours per day, stretched over 3.5 hours or so to allow for breaks. Before touring, all troupe members are given a crash course in bicycle maintenance as well as comprehensive information on cycle touring including how to pack, ride safely, ride in a group, and cycle distances.

In other words, you do not need to be an experienced cycle tourist to apply.

We take lots of breaks and enjoy the journey! We definitely maintain the “pie and ice cream” touring style.

Think you want to sing for us, but are unsure about cycling?

Submit anyways, we often have one-off projects in Toronto that don’t require cycle touring.

What to prepare: We are very open and would like you to feel free to choose whatever showcases your singing and acting the best. Consider preparing 2-3 arias: one as contemporary as possible, and one must be in English.

A pianist will be provided, for a fee of $10. You can also choose to bring your own if you prefer.

Please email with AUDITIONS in the subject line. Please submit by Nov 25th and please note that spots are filling quickly.

Questions welcome via email

Hope to hear you soon!
