On March 4, arrive at 7 pm for a pre-concert performance by the Bicycle Opera Project
Bicycle Opera will be presenting a short programme of highlights from our 2014 summer tour: four diverse mini operas from Canadian composers that range from comedic, to wistful, to downright ridiculous. Accompanied by piano, flute and saxophone.
Airline Icarus (excerpt) by Brian Current and Anton Piatigorsky
This newly JUNO nominated work is set aboard a plane; the opera explores both the spiritual joy and the angst of flying as it invites us into the minds of passengers and crew, revealing their relationships and their innermost thoughts.
A little rain must fall by Chris Thornborrow and David Yee
A dark and twisted comedic work about Rain’s girlfriend, Simone, who may or may not be a serial killer.
(What rhymes with) Azimuth? by Ivan Barbotin and Liza Balkan
Set in Toronto’s distillery district, two strangers find a common point of interest through their observation of the universe: the immensity of the galaxies narrows to the discovery of a new pair of eyes, and the pursuit of a yet unexplored love.
Bianchi: A Five Minute Bicycle Opera by Tobin Stokes
Written specifically for the Bicycle Opera Project. Two characters (are they humans, are they bikes?) race after a third, gearing up to pedal their way into her heart.
Chris Enns, tenor
Geoffrey Sirett, baritone
Wesley Shen, piano
Tristan Durie, flute
Chelsea Shanoff, sax
Original stage direction by Liza Balkan
